About the Artist ~

Andres Garcia Ibanez was born in Almeria, Spain in 1971 and still lives and works there today. He had always dreamed of being an artist, and his mother recalls that he started to paint, before he could walk!

Ibanez's grandfather who was considered a 'Leonardo Da Vinci' by the locals taught Ibanz to paint as a child and, from the age of 13, Ibanez began to copy the work of the great masters; Greco, Velázquez and rembrandt.

By the age of 16 Ibanez had studied and copied every single painting by Goya and by the following year he was ready to develop his own style and subject matter. In 1989 Ibanez began to exhibit his work with several group shows across Spain.

Whilst studying and painting the great masters, Ibanez studied at the University of Navarra, completing a degree in 'Town Architecture in 1996. Since then Ibanez has been involved in over 20 group exhibitions throughout Spain as well as over 30 one-man shows across Europe.

In 1993 Ibanez produced a painting for St Peter's Basilica in Rome and in the same year the official inauguration took place in the Vault of the Chapel of the Esperanza in Malaga. Ibanez also spent time working on his most prestigious commission to date from the Republic of El Salvador, a painting for the Vault of the Cathedral covering a surface of 1,000 square metres! It features 'The Salvation of the World'.
